Doppelgängers and Music!

JS: Something tells me this isn’t the first email you’ve received from me this week. My email was compromised and just about everyone in my contacts got an email from ‘me’ requesting money and asking not to call me because of laryngitis. The bad news is obviously that wasn’t me, the good news is that I don’t in fact have laryngitis! And even better news is the number of people who got that email and know me well enough to immediately know that wasn’t Judy Sarkozy!

So, Alec and I have got control of the email account again and this is all behind us. My suggestion is to treat any email conversation you’ve had with me this week as compromised and reach out to me another way just in case. I’m sorry your inboxes were filled up with nonsense and I thank you all for being so quick to alert me of the imposter! I’m currently enjoying a trip on the East coast to see old friends as well as some Gilmore performances, so I’m going to get back to my vacation and hand the rest of this email off to Alec.

AW: It’s a bit frustrating that the email troubles happened this week, right when I was considering we shut down our social media accounts in favor of these emails/newsletters! I am constantly weighing the pros and cons of social media, there’s so much misinformation, ‘doom scrolling,’ and unhealthy comparisons set by the unrealistic standards that are portrayed. So often what gets shared is a pitch perfect view that is incredibly different from the messy reality we all live. We see the perfect portrayals on social media and then hold ourselves to those unobtainable standards. Then we feed into the problem by posting the most objectively beautiful picture of a baguette that we can find!

Baked by Julia, lightly photoshopped by Emily.

I try combatting this by not shying away of sharing our mistakes (of which there are many!) but there’s only so many burnt croissants, underproof pumpernickel, or mislabeled cookies that I can share with everyone before, just maybe, y’all start doubting the quality that Sarkozy is constantly aiming for! So, the social media accounts are here to stay. But hopefully more emails from Judy and I are on the horizon as well! I love hearing stories from people reading them together with a loved one or saving them to read over coffee the next morning. It’s a genuineness that we strive for that seems absent on social media.

Wistful visions of cozy emails aside, we’ve got things to talk about! The bakery is back open for 2025 after a wonderful post holiday break. The bakers are rested and brimming with creativity for new baked goods and drive to improve upon the classics! It’s citrus season so we have the return of our chocolate orange croissant! This is probably my favorite croissant we make; an orange marzipan filling with a chocolate baton in our flakey croissant dough. It’s perfectly on the verge of decadent.

We also have a wonderful line up of music for our Sunday brunches! We had to move our usual schedule around to fit in a new performer or two (huge thank you to everyone for being flexible with their schedules). I’ll post a more direct schedule below but know that Living Room Musicians will be playing this Sunday, 1/12/25 from 11am-1pm!

Then next week, Sunday 1/19, we are hosting WMUK’s radio program The Pure Drop! This is part five year anniversary of WMUK’s new station, 89.9, part live version of The Pure Drop’s radio show featuring musicians playing Irish and Celtic tunes with roots in Ireland, the UK, Canada, and the US. This should be a wonderful set with a celebratory atmosphere for one of our favorite radio stations. And be on the lookout for a guest baker making special WMUK cookies that day!

We’re going to combat this non stop wintery weather by serving up Shakshuka at brunch! So one more thing to look forward to.

Expect yet another email/newsletter/whatever this is from Judy and I soon. We have a wonderful announcement to make about a cool opportunity for our bakery and bakers!

Music schedule:
Sunday, 1/12: Living Room Musicians
Sunday, 1/19: WMUK's The Pure Drop LIVE!
Sunday, 1/26: High Blue Sky
